:- 4.0 out of 5 stars from CatBuzzard -- You’re not going to use this to make food, are you? : I got this as a gift for my husband, who loves food history. It is HIGHLY entertaining reading, but if he cooks anything he finds in these pages, I will leave him. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2019 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from GP -- The best part of this book is asking people to read it! : I have spent way too much time nerding about in Old English. Reading this book is really not a deal, to me. Interesting recipes, with no absolute measurements means you can really just follow your head, when cooking. I love it! What I love even more is to ask other people to read a recipe to me. No one can read this, easily. It's hilarious. Well read, highly intelligent people stop and just look at me, completely confused by the language! Even my favorite linguist! If you love OE and cooking, this is your book! ( Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Neill Bell -- A Great Book : This is a very useful book. It is written in the most part in very old English but then, those who can manage real English will manage in the end. It does have useful modern versions of many recipes. In all, a milestone book from a very long time ago & it can be used to enhance weekend meals quite well. I think it is great. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2018 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from tabinormal@hotmail. -- Very basic, literal translation : Very basic, almost scholarly translation without much practical information. ( Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2021 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Michael -- Not exactly what I thought : I knew this was written in an older form of the language, but I believed it would have a modern translation. It doesn't. Not the books fault, but it complicates usage and utility of the book. I wanted more than a curiosity. I wanted a useful book. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2021 )
- 1.0 out of 5 stars from Amy -- Hard to understand : I’m currently building up an 18th century cookbook collection and thought this would be a good addition. Unfortunately, it was a waste of money due to not understanding anything in this book. Bummer. ( Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2019 )
- 4.0 out of 5 stars from E. Jenkins -- like a printed version of one you can find online ... : So the book is exactly what it says it is, a reprint of the original manuscript in the middle English. There's no contemporary notes on language so if you don't have much experience with middle English, it's a bit difficult to understand. This is a complete edition, like a printed version of one you can find online for free. I needed it for an essay and wanted a print edition (trust me, it's less confusing than the online version). - 5.0 out of 5 stars from I Ekberg -- Great gift, funny to read : Makes a great gift and a fun read. The old English text can make even a simple recipe an adventure in decyfering goofy ancient spelling and learning the ways of the past. I love this cookbook. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from KegOfGrog -- Un must have : The Forme of Cury (cury deriva dalla lingua francese media / "cuire" = cucinare) è una raccolta di ricette della cucina medievale inglese del quattordicesimo secolo.
